Project Description

A new frontage has been added to the unloved facade of a lively community arts centre to bring a new design dynamic to the busy Bow trunk road in east London pointing the way forward with a beacon of culture.

Neu worked closely with Leaside Regeneration and the Bow Arts Trust to create a solution with a strong impact for the Arts Trust. The rundown brick façade has been over-clad, incorporating a new illuminated timber entrance lobby, new windows and a backlit ‘cinema’ notice board advertising exhibitions and events. Bow Arts lane, a public thorough fare was also treated with new coloured lighting to improve the route to the Nunnery Gallery and public gardens behind. Certain studios and the central courtyard were also upgraded. This was an SRB funded, low budget project that has had a significant urban impact.

Marcel Baettig of the Bow Arts Trust stated, “The building’s transformation has completely gone beyond our initial expectations. It has given everyone who uses and sees the centre on a regular basis an amazing sense of place, and pride.”
